Kolkata Knight Riders franchise was bought by Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment in partnership with Juhi Chawla Mehta and her husband, Jai Mehta. The official theme of the team is Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo Re (We will do it, Fight for it, Win it) and the official colours are black and gold.
The Knight Riders had a good beginning to the inaugural IPL season by winning their first two matches against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Deccan Chargers. Knight Riders’ opening batsman Brendon McCullum scored 158 runs in the first match, which is a record for the highest runs ever scored by a batsman in a Twenty-20 match. However, the team then hit a stumbling block and lost consecutive four matches. Though KKR managed to recover some lost ground, inconsistent performances, saw their run end in the preliminary round-robin stage of the tournament.
However, financially, KKR were easily the most successful franchise in the IPL, achieving a profit of Rs 13 crore.
KKR signed Mohnish Parmar during the IPL offseason and also resigned Sri Lankan spinner Ajantha Mendis to a long-term deal. The most notable personnel move for Knight Riders came during the 2009 IPL Auction, where the team signed Bangladesh all-rounder Mashrafe Mortaza.
Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders are level on points, having won one and lost two out of three games. Chennai’s two losses, however, have come against strong opposition – Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils – while Kolkata were thrashed by Bangalore Royal Challengers and lost in the Super Over to Rajasthan Royals after [...]

Confident about performing well in the coming edition of the cash-rich league in South Africa, Mortaza said his inclusion will increase the IPL fan following in his country.
“It feels great that I’ve [...]
Shah Rukh Khan, owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders, has hit back at Sunil Gavaskar’s comments about franchise coach John Buchanan, and asked Gavaskar to stay away from issues concerning his IPL team.

Kolkata Knight Riders will announce their captain and squad for the IPL’s second season in South Africa and not in India.
“I don’t want to disclose the names of the players who would be going to South Africa now as we want to keep all options open,” Joy Bhattacharya, Kolkata’s team director, said after the conclusion [...]
Shah Rukh said the team’s decision to have multiple captains was in no way meant to sideline the team’s icon player Ganguly, who has hardly minced words in ridiculing the concept.
According to the idea put forth by Buchanan, Ganguly will have to share the captaincy with three others — New Zealand Brendon McCullum, West Indies’ [...]
